Thirteen years.
It’s been a lifetime since I last set foot on the soil of my homeland, Maracaibo Venezuela. What started as a simple trip to pick up my new passport in Caracas became an emotional voyage, stirring feelings I never knew I had buried deep within me. As I embarked on this unexpected journey, I had no idea it would lead me to rediscover my roots in such a profound way.
The moment I stepped off the plane, the air seemed different, carrying with it a scent that awakened memories long forgotten. The bustling streets, the vibrant colors, the lively chatter—all of it felt strangely familiar yet refreshingly new. It was as if I had been transported back to a time when life was simpler, when joy could be found in the smallest of moments.
But it wasn’t just the sights and sounds that touched my soul; it was the people. Everywhere I went, I was greeted with warmth and hospitality, as if I had never left. From the laughter of old friends to the embrace of family members I hadn’t seen in years, each interaction reminded me of the power of human connection.
Venezuela didn’t get fixed, that’s for sure, but I felt how hard the people that decided to stay are working hard to build a better future, and I’m so proud I could experience that first hand.
Below are a bazillion photos of my trip and a BIG surprise at the end. I want to keep these memories forever here and in my heart, Maracaibo, te amo!
