Let’s DIY a Valentine’s Day Countdown Calendar (with Surprises!)
Valentine’s Day is around the corner and if you are just like me and like to celebrate it at home with your kids, what a better way to do it than with a creative, handmade countdown calendar filled with adorable surprises and activities to do 13 days before the big day?
In this creative DIY project, I will guide you through all the steps and materials how you can craft this calendar (imagine an advent calendar but make it Vday version!) using a Cricut machine, felt and your imagination to create the surprises, the perfect way to share many special moments with THE one – while you listen to this curated playlist I created for this special occasion, deal?
Materials required:
- Cricut machine (I used my maker machine, linked here)
- Felt sheets in your favourite V-day colours
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Twine
- Loose fibre
- Wooden dowel
- Two L-brackets
- Scissors
- Cardboard
- Pen
Step one: Cut Shapes
Let’s start by using our Cricut Design Space our hearts and cut them using your Cricut machine. If you don’t own a Cricut machine you can DIY this project with scissors, no worries!
Ps. Make sure you cut 14 hearts and numbers from 1 to 13 to represent the countdown days.
Step two: Create the hearts
Secondly, fill the hearts with loose fibre and attach the corners with hot glue, closing them carefully (watch your fingers, it’s hot) and add the number in front with a tiny dot of hot glue.
Attach a piece of twine at the top of each heart that we will later use to hang in our wooden dowel.
Step three: Have fun Writing the Activities
This is the FUN part – where you brainstorm, plan and write 14 cute, romantic, adorable activities in a piece of cardboard that will fit in the back of each felt heart and stick it with hot glue when you finish writing them all.
Here are some ideas of the surprises I added in mine:
– Check your email
– Look under the bed
– Spa day today
– Brunch at 11am together
– Check your spotify (create a fun playlist)
– Ski day and hot chocolate afternoon
– Movie night with a vintage projector and popcorn at the studio
Step four: Hang your calendar
Using a wooden dowel and two L-brackets, hang your new adorable Valentine’s Day countdown calendar to the wall and order the hearts for a final look.
Isn’t this the most adorable way to spread the love in a creative way this year? I can’t wait to see your creations!
