Introducing: Hey Maca DIY Workshops At The Studio!

workshop table filled with jesmonite accessories

I’m  SO excited to finally finally launch our DIY workshops at the Hey Maca Studio, starting with a bang – our very first one dedicated to the incredible world of Jesmonite art. But before we dive into the details and surprises I have for you next month (and a bunch of photos of our first event), let me tell you why Jesmonite is so much fun!

Are you ready to DIY with me, IRL?

What’s the Buzz About Jesmonite?

Jesmonite is a versatile material that opens up a world of possibilities for crafting – think of cement but way faster, better and cuter. It’s a water-based composite material used in a variety of applications, from interior design to art and jewelry making. What makes Jesmonite so exciting is its ability to mimic the look and feel of natural materials like stone, marble, or even cement, while being lightweight and easy to work with.

Plus, its customizable nature allows artists to experiment with colors, textures, and finishes, resulting in unique pieces every time.

The best part? Jesmonite is considered eco-friendly for several reasons:

  1. Water-Based Formula: Jesmonite is predominantly made from water-based materials, reducing the reliance on solvents and other harmful chemicals commonly found in traditional resins. This makes it safer for both the environment and YOU working with it.

  2. Low VOC Emissions: Jesmonite emits low levels of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) during the curing process compared to many other casting materials. VOCs contribute to air pollution and can have adverse health effects, so minimizing their release is beneficial for both indoor air quality and outdoor environments.

This is one of the many reasons why Jesmonite’s eco-friendly characteristics make it my preferred choice for a  sustainable alternative to traditional casting materials.

Why DIY Workshops at The Hey Maca Studio Are Great for Mental Health

Now, let’s talk about the mental health benefits of attending our Hey Maca DIY workshops like ours, coming from someone that suffers from general anxiety and ADHD diagnosed recently. Did you know that engaging in creative activities has been shown to have numerous positive effects on mental well-being?  Here’s how:

  1. Stress Relief: Getting hands-on with art and craft projects can be incredibly therapeutic (I confirm, it’s my therapy). It allows you to focus on the task at hand, taking your mind off worries and stressors.

  2. Mindfulness: Working on a DIY project like Jesmonite, requires concentration and presence in the moment, promoting mindfulness and helping you to stay grounded.

  3. Sense of Accomplishment: Completing a creative project, whether it’s a Jesmonite art or a mosaic coaster, gives you a sense of achievement and boosts self-esteem – Instant DOPAMINE!
