Let’s DIY a Modern Yarn Pumpkin Wall Hanging

One of the things that I love the most about yarn is making endless pom poms, tassels, and now I can add pumpkins to my special VIP list (because let’s keep it real, I can’t knit or crochet juuuuuust yet).

I’m celebrating Halloween at the studio with this adorable modern yarn pumpkin wall hanging DIY that you can make in just a few steps (not kidding).

If you love all things colourful AND love a cute wall hanging, this is the perfect craft for you.

Here are all the steps to make this adorable DIY, yay!

Materials:

  • Yarn in different colours
  • 3 inch styrofoam balls
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun and glue sticks
  • Twine
  • 1 brass rod
  • Small hand saw
  • Drill

Step one: Cut the Foam Balls to Shape

Let’s start by cutting and removing both ends of our styrofoam balls with a hand saw. We need to have  flat ends so they look like a pumpkin.

step two: Drill the center

Secondly, grab a drill (using the biggest drill bit you have handy) and drill a hole in the middle of your flattened out foam balls. Remember you will pass through the yarn, so the hole needs to be big enough, deal?

Step three: let’s make our cute yarn pumpkins

yay, the fun part! Grab your favourite yarn colour and cut a long (loooooong) piece and thread it through the hole around and around until you cover the entire ball. If you run out of yarn, tie the excess inside the hole and continue by adding more yarn until you finish.

Step Four: Let’s DIY a cute mini pom pom

I wanted to add a cute touch to these adorable pumpkins making mini pompoms for the top. To make them, you just need to wrap the yarn 20 times around three fingers. Add a string of yarn in the middle and knot. Cut the loops on both ends and then open the sides to release the pom pom. Trim it to make them perfectly round and fluffly, so fun right?

Step Five: Set up the wall hanging base

I found this adorable brass rod a few months ago and it’s the perfect touch to make this modern yarn pumpkin wall hanging DIY! Now, attach a piece of twine to the pom poms and  line up your adorable pumpkins starting with the longest twine on both end. Tie them to the rod and remove the twine excess with your scissors.

Can you believe how easy this DIY is? Your new beautiful modern wall hanging is ready for display, high-five!

If you prefer a paper-style garland, head to this post and make this gold and white ghost garland.

Happy Spooky Season friends!
