I started my week so inspired and wanting to create a beautiful wall hanging mobile to complete our gallery wall at home, inspired by the moon! This beautiful phases of the moon mobile is super easy to make just in a few steps that will take you around 15 minutes from start to finish (pinky promise!).
Thanks to our Cricut friends, we upgraded our DIY life at the studio with their brand new Cricut Maker 3 (OMG! OMG!), cutting approximately 300+ materials, from the most delicate fabric and paper to matboard and leather, my life just became WAY more exciting!
I tried my new balsa wood to create the sweetest mobile and I can tell you, the new Cricut Maker 3 is faster and smarter than my predecessor the Explore.
So, let’s jump into our DIY project today, shall we?
Materials Required:
– Cricut Maker 3
– One sheet of Cricut balsa wood
– Metallic gold wire
– Hot glue gun & sticks
– Large bowl with water
– Nail polish in silver and pink
Step one: Set up your Cricut machine and cut
Let’s start by setting up our Cricut Maker 3 and open Cricut design space. You will find many projects already created and designed by Cricut where you can cut, customize and make them at home. I found this beautiful mobile here and I used balsa wood instead of the original material suggested.
Step two: Let’s marble our moons
Grab a bowl and fill it with water, pour two different nail polish colours in the water (I picked a soft pink and silver) and then dip in your balsa wood pieces, painting one irregular coat on one side. Dry them using a paper towel for about 5 minutes.
Step three: Hot glue the wire and voila!
As soon as your balsa wood moon paint is dry, flip them and add a line of hot glue to attach the gold wire. Let it dry for a few seconds and voila! Your new phases of the moon mobile is ready to hang!
